On the next page are Frank Ocean’s words, my words, and a few other people’s words presented chronologically to offer a snapshot of the year of Frank Ocean.

It was through his Tumblr that Ocean released previews, tracklists, songs, videos, and aphorisms from his life. His music and personality was initially disseminated around the world through this port, fueled in part by a cabal of Odd Future cohorts and Def Jam records, who put out his 2012 album channel ORANGE.

If I kept a Tumblr dedicated to reflecting solely on Frank Ocean, what follows is possibly what it would have contained.

His album did nothing for me at all – sorry. :(

I wonder if Ty Segall and Frank Ocean got in a fight, who would win?

Did you see that video of Ocean slapping Nabil to the damn ground?

Well done. I couldn’t agree with you more. How can anyone argue with this? This album is all time. There were so many great albums this year (Lumineers, Alabama Shakes, Cloud Nothings, Japandroids, Kendrick Lamar, Hot Chip, Grizzly Bear, Tame Impala) just to name a few. But this is not band of the year, it’s artist of the year, and nobody has made a bigger influence on music this year than this man. This is the #1 album of the year in my opinion

This kind of adoration is only going to lead to a giant Frank Ocean backlash. Yeah, he’s good but give me a break. Is this the artist of the year or the artist of Jeremy Larson’s year?

Seriously? Only one artist put out two albums, wrote a book, created his own high-def music player, and put out great live performances. He goes by Mr Mother Fucking Neil Young if you’ve never heard of him

Only one person put out an all time great album this year. His name is not Neil Young (with all due respect to Neil).
