Brooklyn dream-pop act Beach Fossils will release their sophomore LP, Clash the Truth, on February 19th via Captured Tracks. Serving as the follow-up to their 2010 Top Star-earning debut, the 14-track effort was recorded with The Men’s Ben Greenberg and features an appearance by Blonde Redhead’s Kazu Makino.
In an interview with SPIN this past February, frontman Dustin Payseur said the album would feature a new, heavier sound from the band. “Indie rock has been so safe for so long. People have been playing this pretty music that’s quiet and melodic and while there’s beauty in that, in making this album I’ve just ended up wanting to rebel against myself and make something really noisy.”
Despite the ardent claim, the teaser track “Careless” sounds like quintessential Beach Fossils. While the song is driven by jangly guitar, drums like the pitter-patter of young hearts, and vocals overflowing with earnest longing, there are bits of angst under the surface, adding a slight sheen of intensity to the band’s endearingly pure sound.
For another preview, check out the band’s recent 7″ single “Shallow”, which will also appear on the album.
