Cass McCombs has returned with the B-side to his “Bradley Manning” tribute single. The psychedelic “Empty Promises” wheels on by with phased strumming and what sounds like a drum kit performed in a van. “The spirit disappears before you grab hold,” McCombs sings and all of a sudden we’re in the middle of Haight-Ashbury and there’s a lanky Indian guy selling hash out of his shoe. Far out, right? Groove to it below and grab the single via Domino.
In related news, McCombs is currently on the road with John Cale for a short West coast tour.
