Texas transplants Parquet Courts, led by Fergus and Geronimo’s Andrew Savage, brandish a certain style of post-punk that’s best described as “loose fitting.” On “Stoned and Starving”, one of 15 tracks off their forthcoming Light Up Gold, the outfit spends five minutes noodling through hooky minimalism that adds up to a lead-lined slacker anthem. It’s a hybrid of Goo-era Sonic Youth with the stark sensibilities of The Fall and the underachieving success of Pavement — at least lyrically. Based on the track’s burnout poetry, Wavves’ Nathan Williams would likely call Savage a close friend, or at the very least a happy acquaintance. Stream it now.
Light Up Gold hits stores January 15th via What’s Your Rupture?. In support, they’ll hit the road later this month for a tour that covers a grand chunk of the nation. Consult the full itinerary below.
