Hear Kurt Vile and Bradford Cox perform “Freak Train”
In 2009, Kurt Vile released his critically-acclaimed third studio album, Childish Prodigy, through Matador Records. Earlier that year, however, the shaggy-haired songwriter, alongside his Violators, dropped a limited pressing of The Hunchback EP to little or no fanfare.
This week, the Philadelphia-based Richie Records and TestosterTunes will reissue the EP on vinyl. The pressing comes with a download of six live bonus tracks taken from a 2011 Atlanta performance that marked the final appearance of the original Violators roster featuring War On Drugs founder Adam Granduciel. One gem out of the bunch is a warped, nine-minute rendition of “Freak Train” featuring Deerhunter‘s own Bradford Cox, which can be streamed below (via Pitchfork).
As previously reported, Vile will release the follow up 2011’s Smoke Ring for My Halo with Wakin On A Pretty Daze this spring through Matador. It’s one our 60 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2013.
