Late last year, Screaming Females canceled their U.S. tour as frontwoman Marissa Paternoster recuperated from mononucleosis. With their first concert in four months set for February 9th at the Don Giovanni Records 10th Anniversary Showcase in New York City, the trio is getting back into the groove with the release of a cassette-only collection of home-recordings entitled Chalk Tape.
As a first listen, “Poison Arrow” is imbued with that very sense of homecoming. The band eschews the furious shredding and visceral screams of last year’s Steve Albini-produced Ugly, instead re-embracing the evocative melodies and quirkier, nuanced fretwork of their earliest recordings. Check it out below.
Chalk Tape will be available February 10th. For tickets and info to the Don Giovanni showcase at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, head here.
