Here’s one way to hush the critics: sing it live in front of them. Beyoncé opened her pre-Super Bowl press conference today with a a real life rendition of the National Anthem — and it was pretty incredible, especially the last refrain. Watch the replay below.
Beyoncé then answered questions from the media, many of which focused on her infamous inauguration performance. She quickly admitted that she sang along to a backing track, adding, “I am a perfectionist. I practice till my feet bleed. I didn’t have time to practice with the orchestra. So due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking the risk.”
She will, however, be singing live for her Super Bowl halftime performance on Sunday. “I will absolutely be singing live [at the Super Bowl]. I am well-rehearsed and I will be singing live,” she said. “This is what I was born to do… I always sing live.”
Beyoncé also teased a major announcement to be made following her Super Bowl performance. So, stay tuned.
