Playing at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on New Year’s Eve is damn near a tradition for Phish, having done it seven years in epic, over-the-top fashion. Their performance Monday night was no different, and seeing as they love random covers, it’s not all that surprising that they took on Black Sabbath’s metal classic “Iron Man”.

Amidst a bunch of oversized, colorful balloons and some dramatic lighting, they stick to the script, shredding hard in all the right spots. Ozzy Osbourne’s howling is hard to match, but keyboardist Page McConnell echoes it fairly well. Watch the replay below; the song starts at 2:05.

You know nothing about Phish dude. They haven’t played at MSG on NYE for the last 6 years. They broke up in ’04 and started touring again in ’09. Keep writing articles on Snoop Dog and other shitty music if you’re not going to do research.
