Iggy Pop and the Stooges have announced a proper release date behind their recently-completed fifth studio album, Ready to Die. Due out April 30th through Fat Possum Records, the album serves as a proper followup to 1973’s Raw Power, marking the return of guitarist James Williamson, who rejoined The Stooges following guitarist Ron Asheton’s death in ’09. Asheton’s brother Scott plays drums while the legendary Mike Watt lays down the bass.
“My motivation in making any record with the group at this point is no longer personal,” Iggy states in a press release. “It’s just a pig-headed fucking thing I have that a real fucking group when they’re an older group they also make fucking records. They don’t just go and twiddle around on stage to make a bunch of fucking money…”
To add excitement, the release goes on to call Ready to Die “a time capsule to 1973″ with “anthems abound.” In anticipation, check out a promotional video featuring Iggy as a human scarecrow below. It’s…weird.
