major lazer lazers strike back Major Lazer delay new album, release mixtape instead

Diplo has once again delayed the release of Major Lazer’s sophomore album, Free the Universe. The album had already been postponed from its original November 6th release date to February 26th. A new release date has yet to be announced.

The band wrote in a statement to fans:

We never want to disappoint our supporters but circumstances out of our control have made us unable to keep the intended date. For anyone disappointedwe are truly apologetic and we promise that this hiccup has only made what we have planned for the album stronger. We tried extremely hard to keep the date but it was ultimately decided that rushing the album would have been unfair to you and everyone who worked so hard on it.

It’s not all bad news though. The album’s next single, “Watch Out for This (Bumaye)”, will be available for instant download to anyone who pre-orders the album on iTunes beginning February 26th. The band also embarks on their latest North American tour next week.

What’s more, the band has announced the release of three mixtapes comprised of rare/unreleased music. Lazers Strike Back Vol 1. is already available for download here.
