New Music: Eluvium Dont Get Any Closer

Louisville, Kentucky musician Matthew Cooper has been composing grand, ambient albums under the name Eluvium since 2003, and after a three-year break, is set release his sixth LP later this spring.

The double-album Nightmare Ending marks the first official Eluvium LP since 2010’s Similes. Today, Cooper has shared the nine-minute song “Don’t Get Any Closer”, a glacial, just-before-the-dawn study of a simple piano line and a one-chord drone behind it. Cooper continues to display the kind of stately gravitas that you’d find in other post-rock, ambient projects like Sigur Rós or label-mates Explosions in the Sky, only he’s less concerned with the final destination and more concerned with the finer points of the journey. Stream the track below.

Nightmare Ending is out May 14th via Temporary Residence Ltd.
