Louisville, Kentucky musician Matthew Cooper has been composing grand, ambient albums under the name Eluvium since 2003, and after a three-year break, is set release his sixth LP later this spring.
The double-album Nightmare Ending marks the first official Eluvium LP since 2010’s Similes. Today, Cooper has shared the nine-minute song “Don’t Get Any Closer”, a glacial, just-before-the-dawn study of a simple piano line and a one-chord drone behind it. Cooper continues to display the kind of stately gravitas that you’d find in other post-rock, ambient projects like Sigur Rós or label-mates Explosions in the Sky, only he’s less concerned with the final destination and more concerned with the finer points of the journey.
