lipsroses The Flaming Lips are now covering The Stone Roses debut album

The Flaming Lips are no strangers to putting their unique psychedelic spin on classic albums, having previously redone Dark Side of the Moon and In the Court of the Crimson King. Now, as The Future Heart reports and the band’s publicist confirms, Wayne Coyne and fwends will be tackling The Stone Roses’ 1989 self-titled debut in its entirety (because a chocolate heart filled with music and a new LP just aren’t enough).

The above Instagram image from Coyne featured the caption, “Doin vocals for She bangs The Drum hopin to get Channy of Polica to sing on it too!!!!”. Other tweets reveal that Stardeath and White Dwarfs and HOTT MT have worked together on “Waterfall”, while New Fumes will take a crack at “Bye Bye Badman”. Shoegazers from Norman, Oklahoma Depth & Current and Def Rain are also slated to contribute, in addition to other surprise guests.

Check out a behind-the-scenes clip of the absurd recording sessions below and stay tuned for more episodes of The Wacky World of Wayne Coyne that are sure to come.

I guess to ask, “Why” would be foolish.

Well Coyne’s voice is about as awful as Ian Brown’s so I guess this makes sense…. just kidding!! I’m looking forward to this. Though I miss classic Flaming Lips when they took time to construct one incredible album instead of just being ridiculously prolific and using silly gimmicks.
