Update: The Staples Center is *not* going vegetarian for Morrissey

Update: Representatives for the Staples Center have sent out their own press release, which contradicts Morrissey’s previous proclamation. Instead of going all-vegetarian, the arena’s vendors will offer “a greater variety of vegetarian items,” and “all backstage catering will be 100% meatless throughout the evening.” However, attendees of the concert will still be able to purchase menu items featuring meat.

In the event Morissey manages to return to the road in time for his March 1st show in Los Angeles, the Staples Center has agreed to go totally vegetarian. According to the Hollywood Reporter, all food vendors in the arena will be prohibited from selling meat during the show. What’s more, the venue and the concert’s promoter, Goldenvoice, will donate a portion of the ticket proceeds to PETA.

This marks the first time the 20,000-capacity Staples Center has gone vegetarian, having previously denied a similar request made by Sir Paul McCartney. So, with that in mind, one might argue the arena’s GM either adores The Smiths or preferred Lennon to Macca.
