Perhaps overjoyed by the news of a forthcoming VH1 biopic, Portlandia star Fred Armisen and a slew of notable guests covered TLC’s classic “Waterfalls” during his show last night at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom. Armisen was joined by Les Savy Fav’s Tim Harrington, Marnie Stern, Yo La Tengo’s James McNew, Nada Surf’s Matthew Caws, Telekinesis’ Michael Lerner, and Sixpence None the Richer’s Leigh Nash (?!). Together, this rag-tag supergroup kept things straightforward, albeit with noticeable blues-funk undertones. Spoiler: Armisen may very well be the best frontman/band leader in the history of popular music. Watch the replay below (via Paste).
