Surfer Blood called their single “Weird Shapes”, the first off their sophomore LP Pythons, “one of the most dynamic songs we’ve ever written”. We’d make a similar argument for the Floridian’s latest number, “Demon Dance”, which premiered earlier today on NPR’s All Songs Considered.
While the title and random demonic screams may indicate this as another slice of the band’s fuzzed-out brand of alt-surf-rock, the crunchy guitars and smooth synth line are imbued with a sheen of poppy accessibility, proving there’s still plenty of musical territory left to be explored. Stream it below; and as host Bob Boilen so eloquently warned, you may wanna “hold on to your Sweet Tarts.”
Pythons is scheduled to hit shelves June 11th via Warner Bros. Records. Prior to that, however, the band will release “Demon Dance” and “Slow Six” as a limited-edition 7″ for Record Store Day (April 20th).
