Listen to Black Sabbath’s new song, “God Is Dead?”

on April 18, 2013, 6:08pm

Black Sabbath God is Dead

Black Sabbath have let loose the first single off their forthcoming reunion album 13, due out June 11th via Vertigo/Republic. On “God Is Dead?”, Sabbath spend nine minutes ruminating over the question through their vintage doom metal that spirals over Brad Wilk’s stomping percussion. Spoiler alert: They don’t exactly find an answer, but Ozzy does happen to discover the “rivers of evil”, so there’s that.

Reuniting the group’s founding lineup for the first time in 35 years, 13 was recorded in Los Angeles alongside veteran producer Rick Rubin and features Rage Against The Machine’s Brad Wilk on drums.

Here’s the band’s upcoming tour schedule.

Hey IHeartRadio on demand…once this song is over, I will NEVER be listening to you again. To use the momentous occasion of the premiere of a new Sabbath song to sell yourselves MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE ACTUAL SONG is utterly fucking shameful. Fuck you people.

C’mon, fuck off with that radio shit, we got it on the first seconds, no need to continue with that crap thru the whole song.

sounds a lot like the vocal forte of lord of this world, and the guitar was not nearly as good as it was in that song

always leery when bands I love come out with new stuff when you think they have sung there last original, but their back and I love it. Some are criticizing them for sounding like black sabbath……..been there done that….well i like the older black sabbath and this is classic sabbath….bring it on boys!

its good but in all old sabbath it sounded like it was recorded in a basement and i loved that sound with all the special effects and what not i think the need to get back to there roots a little better. this sounds to “good” but it sounds to much like ozzy and not 1970s sabbath

This song would have been better with Dio.

Roth Smith
April 18, 2013 at 6:32 pm

It’d’ve been better if both Dio and Ozzy sang it.

Once again tony recycles riffs ozzy sounds only interested in the money it’s going to generate than entertaining his fans. Anybody remember Sabbra Calabra? Didn’t think so Hopefully this album won’t be all about death, doom and slow music. Ozzy’s voice sounds good. The guitar work sucks and the intro shouldn’t take almost a minute for the vocals to start. the 3 second gaps in between the vocals don’t help. this song sounds like the alternative lyrics to physcho man. It’s a been there heard that song for me. That may work for the newbies who are just itching for anything new from this band but for fans of ozzy and sabbath it lacks originality. It is recycled material from there old vault. Wake up sabbath remember when you had bill and geezer sing some of the songs
P.S i know bill isn’t on the album but geezer could have sang some songs

Didn’t really sound very Sabbathy if that makes sense until it started to pick up the pace and then it did sound like something that could have been off of “master of reality”. I didn’t think the sound quality was going to be the same as before considering they said they were using pro tools and i was correct i think that contributed to not hearing a genuine Sabbath sound

I dunno how they can say it’s the first time they’ve been reuntied in 35 years when they did a reunion tour, and album, in the mid to late 90s and even released a new song back then as well:

Jake Corleone
April 18, 2013 at 4:29 pm

They didn’t do an LP though. It was just a live album, and one ooff apperances together doesn’t count either. This is the first LP album with Ozzy and Iommi since Never Say Die.

Brendon
April 20, 2013 at 7:52 am

FYI they did a whole tour with the original lineup, it was called Ozzfest ’99. lulz

Jake Corleone
April 21, 2013 at 5:19 am

My point still stands, they haven’t made an LP since Never Say Die. That’s why this is called a reunion.

They did a few reunion shows and recorded a CD along with 2 new tunes. This is the first time in 35 years they have recorded a full CD.
