Listen to The National’s new single, “Demons”

The National Trouble Will Find

We’ve already seen footage of The National performing several new songs in concert, but today brings the first studio material from the band’s new album Trouble Will Find Me. “Demons” serves as the album’s first single, and comes accompanied by footage of an artist drawing the artwork in chalk. Watch it below.

The song is full of rich, lush instrumentation, yet Matt Berninger’s lyrics are increasingly dismal: “Do not think I’m going places anymore/Wanna see the sun come up above New York/Oh, everyday I start so great/Then the sunlight dims,” he sings. It’s a shame Mad Men only uses music of its era, because god damn are Beringer and Don Draper made for each other.

Trouble Will Find Me is due out May 21st via 4AD, and features Sufjan Stevens, St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, and Sharon Van Etten, among others. Pre-order now.
