“There is an idea of a Huey Lewis, some kind of abstraction, that there is no real musician, only an entity, something illusory, and though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake and laugh at this Funny or Die video and maybe even sense your lifestyle is comparable: I am simply not there.”
Or so that’s how it would go, according to Funny or Die. The online comedy machine has pumped out another gem, this time it’s a parody of Mary Harron’s 2000 film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ classic novel, American Psycho. Rather than watch Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) axe Paul Allen (Jared Leto) to the tunes of Huey Lewis and the News, this alternate reality suggests it’s Lewis as the psychopath and, um, “Weird Al” Yankovic as the yuppie scum?
Just watch and die of laughter below.
Editor’s 80’s Trivia: Huey Lewis and the News’ seminal 1983 album, Sports, turns 30 this year. Its lead single “I Want a New Drug” not only was ripped off by Ray Parker, Jr. for Ghostbusters, but also parodied by Yankovic on “I Want a New Duck”. Make sense now?
