This Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of Adam Yauch’s untimely passing. In his hometown of Brooklyn, there will be two events honoring his lasting legacy.
On Friday, Brooklyn Heights’ Palmetto Playground will be renamed to “Adam Yauch Playground,” according to The New York Post. The movement to rename Yauch’s childhood park was driven by fans on social media, led by Bikini Kill frontwoman Kathleen Hanna, who’s the wife of Beastie Boys member Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock). Horovitz and Michael “Mike D” Diamond are expected to join city officials at the renaming ceremony.
Then, on Saturday, the second annual MCA Day will take place at Brooklyn’s Littlefield. Rare photographs and fan art will be on display as members of the Dynamic Rockers and other DJs spin Beastie Boys records.
