In the lead up to Tuesday’s lineup announcement, Austin City Limits has been leaking some of this year’s artists via the classified section of The Austin Chronicle, as well as on beer koozies, coffee sleeves, styrofoam cups, and napkins found in restaurants throughout downtown Austin. Such names already revealed include D’Angelo, Neko Case, Portgual. the Man, Toro y Moi, Local Natives, The Joy Formidable, Smith Westerns, Shuggie Otis, Not In The Face, Grouplove, and Junip, and now comes the real biggie:
The Cure were already heavily speculated based on an anagram appearing on the festival’s website (ERH TCUE). However, last night, the festival seemingly confirmed the band’s participation after a patron at Gibson Street Bar found “THE CURE” and “#ACLFEST” imprinted within the bottle cap of a a Topo Chico mineral water (via Chain of Flowers).
Update: The festival has officially confirmed The Cure via its website.
The band is already set to headline ACL’s sister festival, Lollapalooza, following dates in South Korea, Japan, and Montreal this summer. They’re the second headliner confirmed for ACL, joining UK rockers Muse, who self-confirmed their appearance last month.
The rest of the festival’s lineup will be revealed Tuesday at 12:01 AM CT.
