Universal Music Group, a major record label, needs your help in its campaign to reissue out-of-print vinyl records from Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Björk, Pulp, and other acts from its massive catalog.

As FACT points out, Universal has launched a crowdfunding campaign called Uvinyl: The Vinyl Project, which follows the lead of like-minded campaigns executed by Ninja Tune and BeatDelete. The only difference is Universal is a major label and, according to recent data, vinyl sales are at their highest point since 1997.

Funders of The Vinyl Project will become “owners of limited edition rare records, which will also include digital downloads and personalized art prints.” Those interested can visit Uvinyl’s website and register for more information.

I would like to find some neat and intelligent comment about that, but the only things coming to my mind are insults.

They have the means to repress anything at anytime they want, but they are just looking to a new way to promote those reissues. And once again, they are stealling any idea coming fom the independant artists and labels. Except that indies don’t use crowdfunding because it’s cool but because they need it.
