We’ve been misspelling Jay Z’s name for the last two years. Sorry.

As Billboard editor Joe Levy reports, Jay Z has dropped the hyphen from his name. In fact, he did so two years ago with the release of Watch the Throne, but no one paid attention then. They are now.

According to Levy, Jay Z’s label has confirmed the name change, and Billboard is abiding by his wishes, listing Jay Z, and not Jay-Z, as the solo artist with the most No. 1 records (via SPIN). What’s more, both Watch the Throne and Jay’s new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, credit Jay Z, and not Jay-Z, on iTunes.

On the plus side, you can still refer to him as Hov, Hova, J-Hova, Jigga, Jigga Man, Jay, Mr. Carter, and, our personal favorite, Lucky Lefty. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ve got about 100 articles in need of editing.

This may sound silly, but now that the dash is out of his name. I see it more of a First Name and Last Name, instead of the iconic phrase of Jay-Z.
