The Clash return to our headsets this week with their boombox-shaped reissues boxset of albums, rarities, demos, and what have you. Google Play is getting in on the action with their five-part documentary titled, “Audio Ammunition”, which compiles previously unseen interview footage with Joe Strummer and the band. To top it all off, they tapped Kurt Vile and the Violators, Thao with the Get Down Stay Down, Surfer Blood, and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor to perform their own renditions of classic Clash cuts. Vile got him some reggae and opted for “Guns of Brixton”, which you can view below and download here. Catch the first episode of Audio Ammunition below, or watch the full shebang via Google Play.
Sound System collects the band’s five studio albums — 1977’s The Clash, 1978’s Give ‘Em Enough Rope, 1979’s London Calling, 1980’s Sandinista!, and 1982’s Combat Rock — yes, even they’ve disowned Cut the Crap (!) — along with three discs of singles, rarities, demos, and B-sides. Grab it now.
