Not long after sharing his remix of CHVRCHES “The Mother We Share”, Canadian producer and Grimes associate Michael Diamond, a.k.a. Blood Diamonds, has unveiled a new, original composition. “Osaka”, which is reportedly off a forthcoming EP on Skrillex’s OWSLA imprint, is a tricky and manipulative number. It begins pleasantly enough, first with ethereal vocal splices scattered across a marimba-led stream of ambient electronic twitches. But, it’s not long before the song fully reveals its beastly itself: 90 seconds in, everything comes crashing down, battered by an unforgiving tangle of shrewd noise. Like many of the well-executed EDM drops out there, the sudden transition hurts so good and ushers in new levels of high-octane aggression.
