The 250-or-so ticket holders who filled out Johnny D’s in Somerville, MA to watch Pegi Young & The Survivors probably weren’t expecting to see Pegi’s husband, the Neil Young, up on stage. But last night, there he was in the tiny Boston club, handling rhythm guitar for The Survivors. The band also features bassist Rick Rosas and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Spooner Oldham on keys, both of who have toured with Young in the past.
As if that weren’t cool enough, the set finished with Young taking lead to debut a never-be-heard song called “Drive My Car”. Much like every song on his 2009 Fork in the Road record, this new number appears to be about Young’s beloved LincVolt electric car. Of course, someone not struck completely dumb by the awesomeness of what was transpiring caught the performance of “Drive My Car” on video, and you can watch the whole thing below.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go bang my head against the wall for having recently moved out of Boston.
