Amidst all the drama that went down during her Portland show last night, Fiona Apple managed to fend off a disruptive crowd (yes, again) and actually, you know, perform. In addition to material taken from her most recent album, The Idler Wheel…, she played a handful of new songs, one of which was recorded by an audience member (via Teco Apple).
Apparently titled “I Want You To Love Me”, it’s a piano-led number that sees Apple’s vocals snake, climb, and fall to varying heights before culminating in a striking, vigorous bridge. It’s unclear if this happened pre-/post- heckling, but it’s hard to imagine a crowd ballsy enough to follow such a commanding performance with disrespectful remarks. Similarly, it’s pretty impressive if Apple pulled this one out after the heckle-fest. Listen to the live recording below.
