The 100 Hottest Records of 2013, according to BBC Radio’s Zane Lowe

on November 27, 2013, 4:30pm

Zane Lowe Radio 1

When we called Zane Lowe the most important DJ in radio, it was no mere feat of hyperbole. His evening show on BBC Radio 1 is a musical Mecca, featuring world exclusive premieres from Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, James Blake, and more on the regular. When he’s not dominating playlists, Lowe routinely nabs A-listers like Jay Z, Kanye West, and Eminem for in-depth, sit-down interviews. (Those three were just in the last few months alone.) That means if Lowe’s talking about a band or a song, there’s a pretty good likelihood the rest of the world will follow shortly.

So, just what is Lowe loving these days? Based on his 100 favorite records of 2013, a sizable cross section of both indie and mainstream acts spread across a slew of genres. There’s rising rap impresarios like Angel Haze (“Echelon”) and Joey Bada$$ (“My Yout”); rollicking punk acts like FIDLAR (“Awkward”) and Cerebral Ballzy (“Be Your Toy”); trending dance producers like Gesaffelstein (“Hate or Glory”) and Gorgon City (“Ready for Your Love”); current darlings like CHVRCHES (“The Mother We Share”) and HAIM (“The Wire”); less publicized cosigns like I See MONSTAS (“Messiah”) and Half Moon Run (“Call Me in the Afternoon”); plus cuts from Kings of Leon, Fall Out Boy, Laura Marling, Sampha, M.I.A., Disclosure, and much more.

But just which track nabbed the coveted No. 1 spot on Lowe’s list? That’s your decision to make. Fans can vote now through December 6th, with the winning record announced December 19th. Cast your ballot here.

Check out the full list below, along with our recent interview with Lowe.
