The French electro duo previously performed live at the 2008 Grammy Awards, joining Kanye West for “Stronger”. As Grammy Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich explained to Rolling Stone: “We learned that because they had such a good experience with us when they appeared with Kanye in 2008, they were happy to discuss a performance on this year’s show.”
“Conversations took place over a period of a couple of months, and finally they agreed to be a part of this year’s telecast,” Ehrlich added. “Details of the performance are still being worked out, but the idea of having the exclusive television performance by this iconic band is something we’re very, very excited about.”
Ehrlich said the show plans to stage a “a collaborative and celebratory stage performance that honors [Daft Punk's] multi-nominated music.” This year, the duo is in contention for four awards, including Album of the Year and Best Dance/Electronica Album for Random Access Memories and Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group performance for “Get Lucky”.
Daft Punk were previously set to appear on The Colbert Report earlier this summer, but those plans were ultimately scrapped due to a contractual dispute with MTV. Instead, they appeared at the 2013 VMA Awards, but only as presenters and not performers.
