Like Queens of the Stone Age, Lorde, The Julie Ruin, and Dum Dum Girls before him, The Mountain Goats’ own John Darnielle (center) has shared his favorite albums of 2013. Spanning everything from death metal to experimental folk to film soundtracks and compilations, his list is as eclectic as they come.

Amongst the bunch are folk acts Baptist Generals and CocoRosie, metal outfits Aeternus and Gorguts, prolific pianist Matthew Shipp, and Molly Drake (Nick Drake’s mother). Also included are John Carpenter and Alan Howarth’s Prince of Darkness soundtrack and a compilation of music from Northern Greece.
