David Letterman hosts The Beatles Week, with The Flaming Lips, Broken Bells, Sting

February 9th marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. The current occupant of the Ed Sullivan Theater, David Letterman, will celebrate with a week full of Beatles-inspired performances featuring The Flaming Lips, Broken Bells, and more, as Billboard reports.

Broken Bells will get the week started on February 3rd with a cover of “And I Love Her”, Sting will perform “Drive My Car” on February 4th, Lenny Kravitz will do his thing on the 5th, and The Flaming Lips — who are no strangers to covering The Beatles — will team with John’s son Sean for “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” on Thursday the 6th. The guests for Friday will be announced next week, though Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are strongly rumored. Wonder which performance Letterman will flip out from the most.

Below, listen to The Flaming Lips cover The Beatles’  “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”.

I’m very excited to hear these covers- especially the Broken Bells one. In the meantime, check out their new album After the Disco, which you can stream on iTunes:
