On 2011’s American Nomad, The Apache Relay created a collection of radio-ready, folk-rock tunes that were neither middle of the road, nor doused in tired “old America” nostalgia. Now, for their forthcoming self-titledalbum, the Nashville-based six piece has veered away from its alt-country roots, aiming for fuller, string-heavy, and soul-inspired productions. Case in point: the LP’s first single, “Katie Queen Of Tennessee”.
“This was the first song we tracked, and I think it ended up dictating where the rest of the record went, at least in a production sense,” frontman Michael Ford Jr. told Rolling Stone. Below, listen to the peppy, lovelorn cut.
Apache Relay the album hit stores on April 22nd.
