Mötley Crüe announces retirement, farewell tour

on January 28, 2014, 5:47pm

After three decades of rocking upside down and imbibing enough booze and drugs to kill an entire school of blue whales, Mötley Crüe has announced plans to retire following one final farewell tour.

Kicking off this July, the massive outing will hit nearly 75 stadiums and arenas across the US before wrapping up in late November. And to ensure that their won’t be any reunion tours down the line, the band has signed an official “Cessation Of Touring Agreement”, effective at the end of 2015, that bars them from any “future, unauthorized touring.”

In a statement, bassist Nikki Sixx said, “When it comes to putting together a new show we always push the envelope and that’s part of Motley Crue’s legacy. As far as letting on to what we’re doing, that would be like finding out what you’re getting for Christmas before you open the presents. We think in an age of too much information, we’d like to keep some surprises close to our chest until we launch the Final Tour.”

While I’ve got an uncle who will mourn the band’s end with spandex and Jameson shots, Big Machine Records is organizing a forthcoming country tribute album to the hard-rocking legends. Several acts have already announced their contributions, including Florida Georgia Line and Rascal Flatts. Of the project, Big Machine CEO Scott Borchetta said, “Our album will highlight just how great the Motley Crue song catalog is. At the end of the day, that’s what will stand the test of time.” No word yet on a release date.

Before their swansong kicks off this summer, the Crue will appear on tonight’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and tommorow’s (1/29) episode of CBS This Morning. Below, check out their full schedule followed by some career highlights. Alice Cooper has been tapped as the opening act.
