After tour extensively behind Nine Inch Nails’ first album in five years, Hesitation Marks, Trent Reznor is heading back to the movies. As just announced, Reznor and Atticus Ross have again been recruited by director David Fincher, this time to score his upcoming film Gone Girl.

Based on the novel Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl tells the story of a women (played by Rosamund Pike) who mysteriously disappears on the day of her wedding anniversary. The male lead is being played by Ben Affleck. The film is set to premiere next October.

Reznor and Fincher previously collaborated on The Social Network, which earned Best Original Score at the 2010 Academy Awards. Their next project, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, was nominated for Best Original Score at the 2011 Golden Globes.

In related news, to coincide with the launch of Beats Music, Reznor has shared a new Nine Inch Nails remix EP. It features four Hesitation Marks songs remixed by  Hot Chip, Cold Cave, Simian Mobile Disco, and Autolux. Beats Music users can listen here.

I really enjoyed reading Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl but I’m disappointed that Trent Reznor is doing the music score. Now, it will be too creepy and disjointed. Fincher should have chosen a more elegant musical score.
