Especially when it comes to the Big 4, more often than not, the lineup announcement proves as exciting, if not more, than the festival itself. The hype, the rumors, the message board scuttle: it’s a six-month ordeal all leading up to the big announcement. More than any other festival, Bonnaroo has made its lineup announcement an event in itself. Last year, the festival had “Weird Al” Yankovic reveal its artist lineup during an hour-long megathon entitled BLAM (short for Bonnaroo Lineup Announcement Megathon). BLAM is back again this year and looks to be even more epic. In fact, it’s now a prime-time affair.
Bonnaroo will reveal its 2014 lineup on Wednesday, February 19th at 9pm EST. Saturday Night Live cast member Taran Killam and comedian Hannibal Buress have been recruited to serve as the masters of ceremony, and the megathon will also include a Bonnaroo-style SuperJam featuring The Flaming Lips, Ben Folds, and other special guests.
And get this: BLAM will be preceded by a two-hour long pre-show beginning at 7pm EST. This really is our version of the Super Bowl.
BLAM will be streamed live for Xbox, marking the beginning of the festival’s new partnership with the video gaming giant. Xbox will also stream the festival itself, offering users “unprecedented access to the live Bonnaroo experience through an interactive, exclusive television experience that will be streaming in high-definition, where available,” according to a press release. “Experience live music as you’ve never seen it before, with multiple streams of the best performances, biggest artists and amazing SuperJams.”
For the PS4 users out there, you’ll be able to watch BLAM live on Bonnaroo.com, or at any one of the official watch parties taking place at record stores across the country. Most of these parties will begin at 7pm EST (unless otherwise noted) and all attendees will be treated to exclusive merchandise.
