Listen: Mac Miller covers Bright Eyes’ “Lua”

on February 07, 2014, 10:25am

Tagging an article with both “rap” and “indie rock” isn’t something you do every day. But leave it to Mac Miller, an emcee known for reinventing himself, to bring the two worlds together with his cover of Bright Eyes’ “Lua”.

Using his producer alias Larry Fisherman, Miller takes the acoustic route with “Lua”, upping the tempo to give the I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning track a brighter feel. His voice sounds a bit like he’s trying to sing around cotton balls jammed in his mouth, but for a white rapper with the kind of reputation Miller has, it ain’t terrible. Still a head-scratcher, though, despite the fact that he’s covered Bright Eyes before, and even sampled My Morning Jacket. Take a listen below (via FADER).
