New Zealand has put the kibosh on Odd Future’s upcoming visit to the country after deeming the hip-hop collective a “potential threat to public order,” as Pitchfork points out. Tyler the Creator and Co. were to take part in the Rapture Festival alongside Eminem, but their visas have been revoked.
In a statement, Australia’s immigration authority explained:
“The Immigration Act 2009 provides that entry permission may not be granted where there is reason to believe there is, or is likely to be, a threat or risk to public order or the public interest.”
New Zealand’s concern is not without merit: several past Odd Future performances have become disorderly and required police intervention. That being said, just two weeks ago, OFWGKTA member Earl Sweatshirt performed a solo set at Laneway Festival in Auckland.
