Less than four months into the year, ASAP Ferg has already released a number of freestyles, including “Pantie Lover” (a rework of Young Thug’s “Danny Glover”), “VMA Tales”, “Shit Y Not”, and “DTM Awards 14”, among others. Today, drawing inspiration from a recent trip to Trinidad and Tobago for Carnival, he embraces a bit of Soca music with a new freestyle entitled “Petit Valley”. Going in over over Bunji Garlin’s single “Carnival Tabanca”, Ferg spends more time actually harmonizing than dropping bars, delivering a rich baritone over the lush combo of dancehall rhythms and layers of beach-ready acoustic guitar. It may not be the aesthetic we’re used to, but the inherent playfulness and sensuality associated with Caribbean music goes perfect with Ferg’s oddball tendencies, like a mojito and a picturesque sunset.
