When Tunde Adebimpe’s not busy fronting TV on the Radio or playing a “Date Fact Checker” on Portlandia, he’s performing as part of the Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band. The experimental group — which also features Ryan Sawyer (Lone Wolf and Cub), Josh Werner (Lee “Scratch Perry”, CocoRosie), and Alex Holden (Big Numbers) — released their self-titled debut EP last year, and now two of their tracks have been reworked by Massive Attack’s own 3D.
“I constantly stalk Tunde with instrumentals,” 3D told SPIN. “In revenge he sent me the Higgins album and I picked two tracks that I thought would be fun to remix.”
First up on the chopping block is “Mad Lifeline”. In its original form, the track’s an eight-minute, brooding sprawler. With 3D at the helms, however, it’s flipped it into a more urgent, almost swaggering, number complete with bouts of spicy, simmering percussion. Check out the remix below.
3D’s remixes for “Mad Lifeline” and “WPIC” (to be unveiled later this week) appear on limited edition vinyl, available for purchase via Battle Box.
