Stream: Wolfmother’s surprise new album New Crown

on March 23, 2014, 12:23pm

Wolfmother surprised fans last night by stealthily releasing their third record, New Crown. The follow-up to 2009’s Cosmic Egg comes after a strange last year for the Australian hard rockers; the band broke up for all of ten weeks, during which time frontman Andrew Stockdale released Keep Moving as a solo record. Stockdale reconvened the band barely a month after the album dropped, and promptly got back to work on a proper Wolfmother release. That release has coalesced into New Crown, which is available now for purchase and streaming below via Bandcamp (via Alternative Nation).

Consisting of current lineup Stockdale, bassist/keyboardist Ian Peres, and drummer Vin Steele, Wolfmother has a handful of dates scheduled this spring and summer. See their full itinerary below.

People are getting the story wrong… what really happened was the summer tour for Andrew Stockdale went grossly undersold. The tour was abruptly cancelled and then the band re-surfaced as “Wolfmother” to play some surprise last minute club shows.

The personnel for this Wolfmother album was almost the same as the Andrew Stockdale solo album. Andrew wised up and realized he could sell more records and tickets as “Wolfmother” than solo. The June 2013 solo album might as well be a Wolfmother album all things considered.
