After playing a series of secret shows en route to Austin, Julian Casablancas finally arrived at SXSW last night. Backed by his new band The Voidz, the Strokes frontman performed at the Chevrolet Courtyard. The eight-song set included one Strokes song (“Ize Of The World”), two tracks from his solo debut Phrazes for the Young (“River of Brakelights” and “Glass”), and five brand new songs from his forthcoming followup record.
Below, watch footage of Casablancas performing “Ego”, “2231”, “Biz Dog”, “The Phantom of Liberty (Arabic Jam)”, and “Dr. Acula” (via Stereogum). Besides the previously heard “Ego”, the videos provide a first listen of the material from his yet-untitled sophomore solo outing, expected out sometime this year. Check out the clips now before they’re inevitably pulled.
