10 Film Scores That Should Be Performed Live

Earlier this week, Radiohead guitarist and composer Jonny Greenwood announced that he’d perform his critically acclaimed score to Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood for two nights at London’s Roundhouse. What’s more, he’ll be joined by a 50-piece orchestra, and it’ll mark the score’s live debut. Because we’re Twizzler-loving cinephiles at heart, the announcement sparked our inner fanboy and we quickly pulled together 10 other scores we want to hear live. Hell, we went further and even imagined an ideal location for each performance — from Austin City Limits to Chicago’s Music Box Theatre. The one condition was that the film’s original composer must be alive, which surprisingly didn’t help us much in narrowing this down. So, microwave some popcorn, turn on your noggin, and let the silver screen into your ears.

Great list! Maybe I’d add Cliff Ramirez’s Drive, James Horner’s Aliens, the others in the comments section and, damn, I could go on all night…

You left out Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’s film work! Preferably The Social Network, but I would be down for a show with music from work on other films. A few pieces from Social Network and Dragon Tattoo have been performed at recent NIN shows but a whole show would be awesome.

I’d also love to see Jon Hopkins perform the score from Monsters, but a) it’s a pretty short soundtrack and b) I’m not sure how it would translate live.

Daft Punk’s Tron score would be amazeballs. Whoever said it’s boring without the movie is high; I think that soundtrack stands just fine on it’s own merits.

I’d love to see Lalo Schifrin’s score for Enter The Dragon performed live. Also James Horner’s score for Commando.
But man, if Vangelis did have a live performance of his Blade Runner score. I’d so be there.

They are perfect emblem off perfect craftsmanship, perfect amalgamation of designs and
colors, this is not a formalised register of different colours in the paints FDA approved?
Returning the painting from the soul what is important is your inner experience of colour creating.
Van Gogh struggled with bouts of mental distress throughout his life,
and sense most colors of the natural, unclothed body that is considered worth capturing.
Face Painting Pumpkins on ChildrenPumpkins are
a wonderful theme to use for your beach outfit design.

Hi would you mind letting me know which hosting company you’re using? I’ve loaded your blog in 3 different browsers and I must say this blog loads a lot quicker then most. Can you recommend a good hosting provider at a fair price? Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield would be amazing to see live, of course if he was still around.

A. Friday Night Lights would be AMAZING live…. B. TRON: Legacy would be sooo boring live without the movie playing. They’ve already said that they wrote the music to what was happening on screen.

I see the Tron performance more as a medley, where the two films’ soundtracks are mashed together for one spectacle.
