Is this 8-bit version of The Black Keys’ “Fever” better than the original?

on April 02, 2014, 3:15pm

In our roundtable review of The Black Keys’ first new single in over two years, “Fever”, opinions were split between outright apathy and the faintest tinges of optimism and promise. Today, we all get a chance to hear the song in a whole new light courtesy of a chiptune remix from 8-Bit Universe. Gone are the twangy organs and psychedelic haze, replaced by the rattle of chirpy synth and what must be the drum bits from Kid Icarus, only chopped and screwed. Now, the question begs to be asked: is this a much-welcomed improvement, or has the world simply misunderstood the Black Keys’ creative intentions? While you ponder that, I’m going to go dust off my SNES and copy of Earthbound.

Listen in below:

“Fever” is the lead single from the duo’s eighth studio album, Turn Blue, due out on May 13th via Nonesuch Records.

I like the original better.

But I like Jack White’s song Highball Stepper the best…
