In the early part of this year, Kieran Hebden, a.k.a. Four Tet, was a new music machine, releasing in rapid-fire succession a sizable collection of demos and archival material, radio mixes, and collaborations with the likes of Jamie xx and Terror Danjah. (Not to mention producing Neneh Cherry’s comeback album Blank Project.)
While he hasn’t released much in the last month or so, he returns today with news of the next three efforts due via his Text imprint. “TEXT029 and TEXT030 and TEXT031 are ready and will all be released on the same day,” he wrote on Twitter. “Around 28 April I think.”
The first release is an EP from the “unknown entity” Taraval entitled Streetways. The other two are 12-inches from the Four Tet’s Percussions side project — “KHLHI” b/w Sext” and “Ascii Bot” b/w “Blatant Water Cannon”. Oh, and if you’re wondering there will also be “special Pono 23bit mastered limited RSD versions coming soon.”
As a preview, Hebden’s unveiled “Blatant Water Cannon”. Spanning six minutes, it hits just about every sound and style he’s referenced over the last few months, from jazzy trip-hop to glitchy drum and bass and even little bits of bossa nova. It’s the perfect soundtrack to bringing your salsa dancing club into the 21st century.
