Listen: Prince’s new single “The Breakdown”

on April 19, 2014, 3:09am

Prince wasted little time cementing his new record contract with Warner Bros. Record, releasing a brand new single in the wee hours of Friday night. Entitled “The Breakdown”, the four-minute funk ballad is now available for purchase through iTunes. It’s also streaming below.

As Dr. Funkenberry points out, Prince first debuted the song during a concert last fall.

As part of his new deal with Warner Bros., Prince plans to release a new studio album, along with a 30th anniversary reissue of Purple Rain, later this year. What’s more, he promises a “veritable goldmine” of unreleased music. Additional details are forthcoming.

For more sounds, check out Prince’s other recent singles, specifically “FALLINLOVE2NITE”, “FUNKNROLL”, “Da Bourgeoisie”, and “Breakfast Can Wait”.

This is hold school type prince. I am looking for a more modern day, 2014 sound ,from prince. It can be rock, metal, pop, dance , just not old sounding , just fresh new music with infectious beats, melodies and great lyrics.

Fantastic song! THe sound quality is another thing though. It destroys my experience a bit. WAY too clipped and over compressed.
