Erasure announce new album, The Violet Flame, world tour

on May 27, 2014, 11:35am

U.K. synth-pop veterans Erasure have announced the release of their next album. Due out September 23rd, The Violet Flame marks Vincent Clarke and Andy Bell’s 16th studio album to date and the follow-up to their dire 2013 holiday album Snow Globe (which reviewer Katherine Flynn likened to pouring “Four Loko in your eggnog”).

Spanning 10 tracks, The Violet Flame was recorded in New York and London with producer Richard X (Annie, M.I.A., Goldfrapp). The first single off the LP is expected to arrive in July.

Beginning May 28th, the album will be available for pre-order at their PledgeMusic page. Packages are set to include single, deluxe and box set formats along with VIP meet and greet opportunities.

Below, watch the album trailer and check out their extensive tour schedule, which include multiple North American and U.K. stops.

Erasure are far from past their prime – believe me! Just because they are less in the public eye, does mean they aren’t still producing wonderful, unique and original music, with their own innovative style. They are a pleasure to behold & geniuses at what they do – a real treat to listen to, and to be able to continue to do so. I can’t wait to hear the new album ‘The Violet Flame’ & the first single to be taken from it!

Thumbs up! You wrote what I’d like to write when someone tries to attack Erasure by saying things like “They were forgotten by people.”, which is actually not true. It’s too simplistic to consider they don’t sell millions and millions of records just because their records aren’t great, which is actually not true as well. The ‘Pop World’ can be a very cruel place to be when it comes to popularity, and V&A certainly know about this fact. Anyway, their talents remain absolutely intact indeed.

Oh man….
OK if its a good album then fair enough, but if its anything like their last two abominations then I really think it might be time for Bell & Clarke to call it a day as they have been completely forgotten about over the last decade or more, their records simply don’t sell. Back in the late 80s/early 90s they scored five number 1 albums in a row, their last few have barely scraped the Top 40. Every time I see an announcement for a new Erasure album these days, I can’t help but sigh.

Are you out of your mind! Every single Erasure single & album is a work of amazing artistry, as is the accompanying artwork on the single & album sleeves, and the concerts & tour production are absolute genius and timeless in their conception and construction. From a true fan since 1985. I have every single piece they have written and produced, and seen them in concert several times.

Why on earth did you call me an idiot? I was just giving my opinion on a band that are long past its prime, if you don’t agree with me fine but have some respect for people.
