Listen: Morrissey’s new single “World Peace Is None of Your Business”

on May 13, 2014, 1:06am

Between ending a show early, getting into a spat with two other bands, and just being himself, Morrissey has generated quite a bit of controversy ahead of its release of his new album, the appropriately-titled World Peace Is None of Your Business. Today, however, he shines the spotlight back on the album with the release of its title track and first single. It’s now available as an iTunes download with pre-orders of the album.

Additionally, Moz has paired the track with a spoken word performance video. Directed by Natalie Johns, it features a cameo from Nancy Sinatra and a dapper looking Morrissey giving the song a twist that feels like “Fitter Happier” meets a preachier, more cynical “Choose Life” Trainspotting monologue. Watch that on iTunes, too, and check out the album’s ridiculous tracklist below.

Update: As Pitchfork points out, the album’s release date is set for July 15th. The artwork above, previously reported as the cover for the single, is actually the cover of the album.

This website’s reporting on Morrissey would be greatly improved if they would stop referring to the non-event of some no-name band using their suppositions about him and his level of involvement in managing a small California venue to throw a temper-tantrum.
