While it seems like practically everyone has covered Arctic Monkeys as of late (a list that includes Miley Cyrus, Sam Smith, Jagwar Ma, and Katy B, among others), the English rockers themselves are no strangers to the occasional reworking. With covers of The Beatles and Lou Reed already in their back pockets, they expanded their repertoire to include Tame Impala during a recent appearance on “Like A Version” for Australia’s triple j radio.
Joining the likes of ASAP Rocky, Memory Tapes, and the PS22 Kids Chorus, frontman Alex Turner tried his hand at “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards”, delivering a stripped-down, folksy version that sounded like Johnny Cash-meets-a-1950s-crooner. The one downside? No Kendrick Lamar.
Also, pay close attention to the first 40 seconds, where Turner reveals an uncanny ability to speak people’s name backwards. Awesome and eerie.
