White House Press Secretary Jay Carney isn’t just the world’s most important publicist; he’s also a self-proclaimed Guided By Voices super fan. He perviously described Dayton, Ohio as “home of the Wright brothers, the Dayton Peace Accords and Guided by Voices, the greatest rock-and-roll band in the modern era.” He also once accidentally confused Senator Mitch McConnell as “Mitch Mitchell”, guitarist of GBV. So, when the legendary rock band rolled into Washington, DC last night who might have showed up to introduce the band Yep — Carney.

Below, watch video of Carney’s intro plus a few other photos, including one of he and his son watching GBV play from the side stage (via DCist). In fact, Hugo Carney took advantage of the view and captured a video, which he shared via his Instagram.

Jay Carney stated to the press “GBV knew nothing about the DC gig. They found out about it, like the rest of you, in the news.” Carney followed-up with ” GBV is mad as hell, with regard to the situation, and has drawn a red-line for future promoters. ”

GBV can be seen on Saturday, May 31st, playing rounds of golf with Jay Z, until Mr.Carney has to lie about the next crisis.
