Morrissey blames tour cancelation on opening act

on June 10, 2014, 9:50pm

Previously on the soap opera that is Morrissey, our fearless hero fell victim to a bad helping of penne and tomato sauce. Now, for his latest tour cancelation, Moz is placing the blame on the opening act, Kristeen Young.

Shortly following news that the remainder of his U.S. tour was being called off due to “a respiratory infection”, a lengthy explanation was posted on Morrissey’s unofficial official website True To You. Beginning by describing the cancelation as an “unimaginable sorrow,” the singer recounts the sordid tale of how Young failed to confess “‘a horrendous cold,’ the symptoms of which were passed on to Morrissey resulting in the cancellation of the next show in Atlanta.” Morrissey was first hospitalized in Miami for an “acute fever,” and later in Boston after he collapsed following his final show.

The note continues: “For the good of all, Kristeen was asked to step down from the immediate upcoming shows, but instead she decided to leave the tour entirely. Morrissey and the band wish her well and hope she is now in good health.”

Update: On Facebook, Young has disputed the claims made by Morrissey. Instead, Young says she suffered an allergy attack that was over within 16 hours. She also says she did not leave the tour voluntarily, but was asked to do so by his booking agent. “I am very sorry that Morrissey is not feeling well,” she concludes. “But I will not tolerate these lies … particularly about my health.”

Morrissey concludes the posting by ranking his five favorite shows of the tour, which feels a little self-righteous given the current circumstances, but who are we to question Morrissey.

Morrissey and the band are otherwise delighted and very grateful for their experiences on the U.S. tour, some shows of which they considered to be their best-ever, most notably:

1 BOSTON Opera House
2 LOS ANGELES Sports Arena
3 BEAUMONT Julie Rogers Theater
4 NASHVILLE Ryman Auditorium
5 MEMPHIS Orpheum Theater
