Nas has dedicated most of 2014 to commemorating the 20th anniversary of his landmark debut album, Illmatic. He began the festivities by releasing a deluxe reissue, which he supported with a subsequent world tour during which he performed the album in its entirety. In October, he’ll head back onto the road, this time in support of the album’s new behind-the-scenes documentary.
Nas: Time Is Illmatic opens at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival on October 1st, after which additional screenings of the film will occur across the country. Several of these dates will feature a performance from the rapper himself.
Directed by multimedia artist One9 and written by Erik Parker, Time Is Illmatic “traces Nas’ influences and the insurmountable odds he faced in creating the greatest work of music from hip-hop’s second golden era,” according to a press release. The film was produced in part by Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Productions.
